Pet Transfer Program

Due to the extreme pet overpopulation problem in our area, we take in around 5000 pets each year. Unfortunately, there simply are not enough homes for them all in our community, so we partner with other shelters in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and some areas in New Mexico to get each animal placed in a forever home.

By transferring animals to other areas where the need for adoptable animals is high, we give each animal a chance at a happy, healthy life.

Thanks to our transfer program and partnering shelters, we are able to save close to 90% of the pets that come into our shelter.

Humane Communities
Outreach Project

Staff and volunteers are always on the lookout for animals in the community with no shelter, bedding, or appropriate care. Our first priority is humane education for owners, and we offer help to provide dog houses, food, and encourage owners to get their animals off chains as much as possible.

Trap-Neuter-Return

Feral and stray cats are the greatest source of cat overpopulation in the United States.

In partnership with animal welfare funders, our trap-neuter-return program (also referred to as TNR) provides a non-lethal way to effectively manage overpopulation of these free-roaming cats. Through TNR, felines are humanely trapped, evaluated and sterilized by a licensed veterinarian, vaccinated against rabies, and then returned to their original habitat.

In our region, this helps prevent an estimated 300 cats and kittens from ending up in shelters each year.
